Dear Comrades and Supporters:
As the year comes to an end, I hope you are all well and enjoying the season. I, our Director of Outreach Charlie Griggs, our longtime director Barbara Manley and all our board members, artists and friends, wish to extend our gratitude and appreciation to those of you have who have attended our performances and special events, and supported Gateway Classical Music Society for these past 14 years. While every season has its own tone and character, and each individual who has attended a Gateway performance has had his or her own distinctive remembrance of it, our supporters frequently tell us that their experiences with the Gateway Orchestra Great Works of Art performances of masterworks of opera, symphony and oratorio, have ranked among their most favorite, artistically rewarding and inspiring.
Last season was indeed an artistically rewarding and creative one for Gateway. The Gateway Orchestra was a participant orchestra in the New York Philharmonic’s New World Initiative celebrating the Dvorak New World Symphony. The Gateway Orchestra performed Dvorak’s masterpiece along with the Brahms Violin Concerto, the Waxman Carmen Fantasie, and other, shorter works, in two programs in Harlem and downtown New York City; Ridgewood, New Jersey; and Greenwich and Bridgeport Connecticut. Yigit Karatas and Yezu Elizabeth Woo were the outstanding violin soloists featured in those Gateway Orchestra concerts. The Gateway Bridgeport Initiative, launched in 2016 to bring live opera performances back to Fairfield County and to Bridgeport’s Klein Memorial Auditorium, enjoyed a hefty attendance at its benefit concert at a home in Bridgeport in October. A performance date of November 3, 2018 has been reserved at the Klein for the Initiative’s first performance of a major opera with one or two additional performances of it likely in New York City and possibly elsewhere.
As any arts organization must, Gateway Classical Music Society is evolving, developing, and responding to its artists,
audiences and supporters to constantly maintain excellence and strive towards something greater. The support we receive through charitable giving is crucial to sustaining and developing our programs. As we now look towards the future, I request at this time that you make a donation to Gateway Classical Music Society in support of our objectives to further live performances of masterworks and outstanding talent. All contributions are greatly appreciated. For those of you who may wish to increase your donation, whatever additional support you would like to provide will be extremely helpful and greatly appreciated.
You can easily and quickly make a tax-deductible donation right here online at www.gatewayclassical.org where you can click on the “Donate” button at the bottom of this home page or on the main menu. If you prefer to send a check, please send it to Gateway Classical Music Society; 1117 East Putnam Avenue, #315; Riverside, CT 06878.
On behalf of the entire Gateway organization and board, I wish you a joyous and peaceful holiday season, and a happy and prosperous New Year.
Ida Angland, Artistic Director
