Message from the Artistic Director
As the year comes to an end, I hope you are well and enjoying the season. I, our Director of Outreach Charlie Griggs, our longtime director Barbara Manley and all our board members, artists and friends, wish to extend our gratitude and appreciation to those of you have who have attended our performances, benefit events and supported Gateway Classical Music Society for these past 15 seasons. While every season has its own tone and character, and each individual who has attended a Gateway performance has had their own unique remembrance of it, our supporters frequently tell us that their experiences with the Gateway Orchestra Great Works of Art performances of masterworks have ranked among their most favorite, artistically rewarding and inspiring.
2018 was indeed an artistically rewarding and creative year for Gateway. Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida was performed at the Klein Memorial Auditorium and in New York City to rave reviews and enthusiastic audience response. The premiere performances at the Klein, as part of the Gateway Bridgeport Initiative to bring live opera performances back to Fairfield County and to the Klein included, on October 26, a rehearsal of Aida that doubled as a performance to over 500 students during school hours, as part of the Initiative’s educational outreach. The students witnessed acts 1 and 2 of Aida, which were costumed and semi-staged. On November 3, our evening performance of Aida was presented to the general public. Three New York City performances followed on November 7, November 11 and November 14 that received rave reviews on social media and in the Brooklyn Discovery. The review may be read by clicking on or typing in this link in your browser: http://brooklyndiscovery.com/2018/11/gateway-classical-music-society-presents-a-thrilling-aida/
The reviews on social media described the performances as “thrilling,” “magical,” and “world class.”
As any arts organization must, Gateway Classical Music Society is evolving, developing, responding to its artists, audiences and supporters to constantly maintain excellence and strive towards something greater. The support we receive through charitable giving is crucial to sustaining and developing our programs. As the year comes to an end, if you have not already done so, I request at this time that you make a donation to Gateway Classical Music Society in support of our objectives to further live performances of masterworks and outstanding talent. For those of you who may wish to add to your donation, whatever additional support you would like to provide will be extremely helpful and greatly appreciated.
